Prevention of temperature rise and damage inside the car due to sunlight
Interlayer films used for windshields and other automobile glass are required to have various additional functions beyond the basic shatterproof function.
Sunlight (infrared rays) entering through automobile windows raises the temperature inside the vehicle, causing poor fuel efficiency resulting from running the air conditioner. Ultraviolet (UV) and near-infrared rays (NIR) also cause a burning sensation and damage to the skin, as well as interior deterioration.
UV/NIR cutoff for improved cabin environment
With its nano-dispersion technology, S-LEC™ Solar Control Film blocks infrared rays, which are a source of heat. The film blocks UV and infrared rays while allowing visible light to pass through, thereby protecting the steering wheel, seats, dashboard, and passengers’ skin from the scorching sun. In addition to enhancing the comfort of the cabin, it also offers flexibility in designs such as large openings, and contributes to improved fuel efficiency and electricity costs.
Furthermore, its excellent radio wave transparency ensures unhindered connection for mobile phones and sensors.
When the optimum solar control grade is selected from the extensive product lineup based on the glass configuration, it can offer the best performance in terms of heat shielding. It can also be combined with other high-performance interlayer films.

Features
While traditional interlayer film filters out more than 99% of ultraviolet rays, most of the infrared rays had penetrated across the film. S-LEC™ Solar Control Film substantially cuts ultraviolet rays as well as mid-infrared rays of 1,300 to 2,100 nm in wavelength-the primary cause of the heat from the sun that results in a burning sensation on the skin.
■When used for windshield
Fine particles with infrared ray filtering function distributed in interlayer film
Solar control fine particles are distributed in standard layers using SEKISUI's own fine particle dispersion technology, which allows fine particles and materials with a variety of functions to be distributed evenly in an interlayer film resin. This has made possible a significant reduction of not only ultraviolet rays but also infrared rays which result in a burning sensation of the skin.
Substantially cut ultraviolet rays harmful to the skin and products
S-LEC™ Solar Control Film has further enhanced the UV filtering performance that is one of the basic properties of standard interlayer films. As evident in the graph, the film substantially cuts the harmful ultraviolet rays that enter a room. Solar Control Film protects customers' skin from suntans at bright cafés and prevents discoloration and changes in color of important products displayed in shop windows. It is also optimal for art and other museums and is effective for reducing the flying of insects into display items.
