In order to achieve automated driving, a number of systems, such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and infotainment systems, are needed on-board. Furthermore, human-machine interface (HMI) design will be increasingly important for drivers to understand and operate those systems correctly and safely.
For example, when the driver needs to intervene in case of an emergency, a sensor system is required to detect the driver’s operation accurately, while immediately informing the driver and assisting the safe and smooth operation of the vehicle. In addition, the design of the interior and HMI must be consistent, which requires sensors with a high degree of design flexibility.

Thin touch sensor for 3D shapes

SEKISUI’s touch sensitive sensor is a thin film-based touch sensor.

The use of flexible polymer-based material makes it suitable for installation on bent or curved surfaces, and it can be used for a variety of input methods, including touch, slider, and wheel types.
Screen-printed designs and 3D shaping are also supported, contributing to next-generation HMI and interior design.
